Manuscript, in a single hand, of a copy of a diary which records political turmoil in England between 1638 and 1648, especially in its relations with Scotland, and concluding with the death of King Charles I. The diary begins with his going "to Bramham Moor to see the training of our light horse for which service I myself had sent 2 Horses by Commandment of the Leutenants...These are strange strange spectacles to this Nation in this age that have liv'd thus long peaceably without noise of Drum or Shott;" his final diary entry notes that "I hear the Parliment began to treat with the Scots to have the King return back unto them makeing shew they wod give him an Honourable reception but they made him at last know he was their prisoner. And while I remaind conceald in my own House I could hear of his going to Holmby to Hampton Court the Isle of Wight to White Hall and at last which was his last day upon the 30th of Jan. 1648 I hear Heu me!" The diary also records more personal matters, such as the death of his wife on December 3, 1639.
